Piper sees most objects in the house as things to climb. Chairs, tables, toy bins, beds, bathroom stools, book stacks. She even balances herself on top of things like Jonas' trucks, and her wipes container. Ellie and Jonas were never climbers, so this business of Pipe's, is new to me, and it's exhausting.
She's mastered getting to the top of just about everything in our house. I gave up on trying to stop her (with the exception of the kitchen bar stools, those are too dangerous.) and just taught her how to get herself down from the things that she climbs on. She's happier, I'm happier.
I sent Ryan to the store to buy new shower curtain rings. He forgot that I told him to get black ones, and he came home with white ones, because "I figured white goes with everything". I got mad at him, and then realized that maybe I hadn't actually told him to get black rings... I just thought he knew that I wanted black. Because the curtain is black, and the liner is black... Turns out he's not a mind reader. And, he also has never noticed what color anything in our bathroom is. Whatev. Guess that means that I could do a decorating bathroom remodel, and he wouldn't even know....
Anyway. Piper saw the box of those white shower curtain rings on the bathroom counter. She busted them open and slipped them all on her arm. Bracelets!
Leave a pencil or a crayon out? Piper will find it.
I never thought I'd lose control over the pencils and crayons in my house. But when you've got a nine year old and a five and a half year old who spend 90% of their time writing or coloring, you sort of get over it.
Piper has been incredibly good so far, about only coloring on paper. (Knock on wood) So what if it's on the floor in the middle of the hallway, at least she's coloring on paper. Bah!
Also, Piper sort of has that "tell me no and it'll just make me naughty, let me try it and I'll obey the rules" personality. She will sit at the art table and color for a solid 30 minutes. And, now that we've taught her how to get OFF of the chair without falling off the chair, I'm cool with it. :)
This picture slays me. Right in half. I can't love it enough.
Ellie and Jonas were coloring with markers at the counter, and Piper wanted in on the fun. I told E and J to put away the markers and just use crayons, because I didn't want P to use markers then. (We were going out for dinner, and I didn't want P to get marker on her clothes.) If Piper sees them using them, she'll cry until we let her use them, too. Anyway, Ellie solved the problem by putting one of our preschool tees over Piper's outfit, like an "art shirt". Hah! Piper sat at the table coloring more intently than I've ever seen her color. Look at her face right up next to her paper with her shoulders scrunched up against her neck. I die.
After her bath, just before bed, she climbs up into our chair to read. One of both of our favorite times of the day.
